ACIM Conference: Get My Full Report
I spent last weekend at the Miracles Distribution Center's (MDC) Course in Miracles conference in Irvine, CA. My report on the conference is way longer than my usual post, so I posted it in its entirety on the blogs intended for that subject matter and I'm just providing a link to it here.
So check out the whole story in this blog post.
Back From Great Course in Miracles Conference
I've been away from here lately because I traveled to SoCal (Irvine to be precise) to attend the annual Miracle Distribution Center conference on A Course in Miracles.
Wow.
Not only fantastic for the content provided and for the high-scoring entertainment value, this conference also proved life-changing for me. My favorite speakers at the conference, which drew about 300 folk who consider themselves God's Teachers:
Marianne was awesome, holding down a two-hour slot that seemed to be over in about 15 minutes. Jon is fast becoming a friend on this path and his talk was a nice blend of humor and information (and some of the humor also contained information!). Jacob was a new name to me. He's hysterical and he is the most responsible for the life change I'll be working through in coming months. Ms. Kieves' talk was bright and witty but more entertaining than informative. She did, however, get the juices flowing in my brain for what Jacob sealed on Sunday.
As they say in some ad campaigns: watch this space.
"I could see peace instead of this." - Course in Miracles Lesson 34
Lesson 34 of A Course in Miracles is one that many students of the material have adopted as one of their favorites. And no wonder. In any situation in which we are perceiving anything other than inner peace, the simple reminder of this lesson's title can bring instant reassurance and calm to our centers.
The lesson offers a more precise way of using its primary teaching when it says "If a specific form of temptation arises in your awareness, the exercise should take this form: I could see peace in this situation instead of what I now see in it." (Emphasis in original.)
Every breath, every moment presents us with an opportunity to choose again. The simple beauty and clarity of that truth acts as a constant reminder that nothing that happens in this life lasts forever. Everything ultimately passes. That means in turn that no choice we make is irrevocable, no outcome inevitable by any true definition of that word.
So if you encounter stress or anxiety or upset or anger or anything else but peace in your circumstances, pause, take a breath, and remind yourself, "I could see peace instead of this."

A Course in Miracles and Forks in the Road
I am at a significant fork in the road that is my life. I have been spending a good bit of time lately looking at the question of how I structure and plan the next phase of my life on planet earth. I've always been a planner, a doer, a Type A personality who has mellowed a lot over the past decade but who still monitors and plans by relying heavily on ToDo Lists.
I am also a long-time student and teacher of A Course in Miracles. In recent weeks, as I've been exploring my possible futures, I have been struck by two of the Course's very practical teachings.
One is entitled "I Need Do Nothing," which doesn't turn out to mean I can sit on my hands and let things happen but does mean that there is no one thing that I must or need to do.
The other is under the rubric, "A Healed Mind Does Not Plan." I'm in the midst of my study on that one.
But I found it noteworthy that at a watershed moment, the advice I'm getting from my inner guidance through the Course (as we who study it call it) is telling me to act in ways that seem completely contradictory to how I've lived my life until now. Challenging thoughts on which I am off to meditate.
A Course in Miracles Class Continues in Monterey
In case you're interested and live on the Monterey Peninsula, I thought I'd mention that I'm teaching a class on the Course on Monday nights at 7 p.m. at Unity of Monterey Bay, 601 Madison, Monterey, just up the hill from the City Hall and Police Station.
We're going through Chapter 1 of the Text in this eight-week session, which is half over but to which new students are always welcome. I should warn you that I don't teach the Course the way most teachers do. I use a lecture-discussion method rather than a reading circle approach. There's plenty of lively discussion in our group whose size varies from 22 to 34. Class fee is $10/week but scholarships are available. You can get more information or get added to my ACIM mailing list by contacting me or my Personal Assistant, Debbie Jones at debbteaches@gmail.com.
BTW, we record each week's lesson, so you can listen to the audio download if you can't make it or want to make up missed classes. I do ask that you offer a small love offering of $5 or $10 if you download an audio for a class you didn't attend so we can keep the fires burning.
