The Adjustment Bureau: Rich, Powerful, Deeply Layered
I went to see The Adjustment Bureau tonight at the recommendation of my youngest daughter Heather, an inspired being if ever there was one. Despite slightly-above-average reviews, I found it to be one of the best movies I've ever seen. Matt Damon did a great job but he was overshadowed in some ways by a magnificent supporting cast including most notably his love interest, played by Emily Blunt, and his secret helper an renegade case worker Harry Mitchell played by Anthony Mackle.
Based on a short story by one of my favorite writers, Philip K. Dick, called Adjustment Team, this movie has so many layers of meaning and spiritual depth that it was mind-boggling. All four of us who went to the show agreed with Heather that this is a movie that is not only worthy of multiple viewings but also demands them if we want to squeeze every last nuance of meaning from a singularly and cohesively brilliant plot.
It's not often that a film can carry off a combination of sci-fi, thriller and romance but Adjustment Bureau pulls it off with panache. I urge you to see this movie. Seriously.
I'll Be Traveling...for Fun!
My wife and I are leaving in a couple of hours to take the train from San Jose to Sacramento, where my daughter and son-in-law will pick us up and whisk us into the foothills and forests of Nevada County. We'll be spending a few days with them and most of our grandchildren. I'm also going to try to visit the California School of Ayurvedic Medicine for a tour and to meet the powers that be. I'm studying Ayurveda independently using materials authored by the founder of the Grass Valley school (which has several US locations). So blogging may not be as frequent. Then again, it might get even more prolific as I begin to explore my newly obtained iPad! (But that's a whole other post.)
